+ Please keep Reading the Bio of Catherine Booth (you can find this by googling her name and also the book to the right entitled Catherine Booth)
• List your hopes and dreams for your family on a piece of paper
• Determine one goal for your family to be implemented this week
• Make a list of things your children do that are
negative. On the opposite side list what you want
them to do instead or how you want them to respond instead...we will talk about this at our next class
We read this quote below from the book,"Boundaries with Kids," by Dr. Henry Cloud. Think about this quote during the week and how it relates to you. Don't get depressed about it! But let it help you in your goals and plans for your family!
One of the most helpful questions parents can ask themselves when faced with a child’s problem is not,”Why won’t he stop hitting his brother?” but “What was my part in creating this problem?” This will be painful as it will require you looking at the plank in your eye rather than the speck of sawdust in your child’s. (Matt. 7:1-5)

Teaching vs Training
Our 2nd class dealt with this subject, TEACHING VS TRAINING and you can find the slides here toward the end of the slideshow. (on the right)
A child under the age of 12-13 is largely in the Training stage or Correction stage and must be corrected most of the time. This stage is very hard and it seems constant for some children! They need to be told what to do and they should learn to do this on the first request. They will obey under your request at times
(some children will need more force!) until they get the picture and the battle is won.
A child from 12-13 and up are in the Teaching stage as they are mostly under control and can be more easily taught. They need to be told why they should obey. They should obey now under voluntary submission.
Teaching and training will overlap according to the child's willingness to obey and their maturity level.
What we largely see today when young children misbehave is a failure on behalf of the parents to control their children. Unless a child is under control teaching cannot be accomplished well. The slide show gives reasons we don't control and examples of negative training. I think this subject is one of the most important to learn as a parent! By the way, there are more scriptures on correcting your children than most other subjects dealing with parenting issues...
The slide show states what training is and is not and is very enlightening. This all comes from the book,"What the Bible Says About Child Training." by Richard Fugate.
